Ominous sign
by teejay ininsurgents today killed five people and wounded 18 others after breaching the heavy fortifications of baghdad's green zone, setting off bombs they had carried into an outdoor market and a cafe.. .
initial information indicated the attacks were a suicide operation.
if so, it would be the first time that insurgents have struck from within the heavily guarded compound, home to the british and us embassies and iraqi government offices.. .

That is a source of dark humor for me and my friends. Any time something bad happens anywhere in the world, we say to one another: "Al Qaeda!!" A bomb blows up? "Al Qaeda!!" There's a "natural" disaster? "Al Qaeda!!" There's a housefire? "Al Qaeda!!"
LOL - Great minds... except I take it to the mundane. When I burned my popcorn the other day, I blamed it on Zarqawi. Dark humor sustains. Laugh till you cry, cry till you pray.
They think along similar lines about Zarqawi in Baghdad. This is excerpted from an Iraqi blog.
One wonders who is behind the explosions and the car bombs. Bin Laden? Zarqawi? Possibly... but it's just too easy. It's too perfect. Bin Laden hit the WTC and Afghanistan was attacked. Iraq was occupied. At first, any explosion or attack on troops was quickly blamed on "loyalists" and "Baathists" and EVERYTHING was being coordinated by Saddam. As soon as he was caught, it became the work of "Islamic extremists" and Al-Qaida and Zarqawi suddenly made his debut. One wonders who it will be after it is discovered that Zarqawi has been dead for several months or that he never even existed. Whoever it is, you can bet his name will three syllables or less because that is Bush's limit.
A week ago, four men were caught by Iraqi security in the area of A'adhamiya in Baghdad. No one covered this on television or on the internet, as far as I know- we heard it from a friend involved in the whole thing. The four men were caught trying to set up some explosives in a residential area by some of the residents themselves. One of the four men got away, one of them was killed on the spot and two were detained and interrogated. They turned out to be a part of Badir's Brigade (Faylaq Badir), the militia belonging to the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq. Should the culprits never have been caught, and should the explosives have gone off, would Zarqawi have been blamed? Of course. -

Jim,
Are you kidding? That's great. Do you mind posting the dates? I'm not doubting you, I'm just too lazy to look it up myself and I would love to have that info on hand.

Did the extra terrorists ship in, or is it an increase in disillusionment amongst the populace?
From what I've read, it's a lot of the first and some of the second. The U.S. made two huge mistakes (beyond invading a sovereign country) IMO. They didn't send enough troops and they disbanded the Iraqi army. More troops and/or the Iraqi army could have secured the borders. Instead there's been a steady stream of non-Iraqis coming into the country.
What I'm curious about is how Zarqawi can be responsible for every single thing that happens over there. He's quite the multitasker. I think it's a sign of how horrible American intelligence must be if we only know the name of ONE terrorist leader.

Distractions at the Convention
by Nosferatu ini read the post where some kid let go of a helium balloon at a convention, and everyone was watching it.
when i used to attend the conventions, i loved distractions.
i always heard multiple "pssst" sounds from people opening cans of cott cola.

I spent my convention time creating elaborate sexual fantasies and perfecting the art of sleeping without allowing my head to nod. My friends were jealous (of the non-nodding head trick). Don't think they knew about the other. :-)

Please let it be cancer! Please let it be cancer!
by Elsewhere inhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0332375/
i watched a new show the other day called "saved!".
it is a great show (comedy / drama) that shows the lives of some born-again teens and their families.

That scene was hilarious. The movie's a satire - therefore, the stereotypes are exaggerated. I recommend it - very funny, especially Mandy Moore's self-righteousness.

Man, I know what you mean about stress initiating a craving. Alcohol does it for me, too. Now that I've quit for real, having one cigarette a month is no big deal IMO. Hope things even out for you soon, Eyebrow.
Where in Texas are you? I'll meet you out back for real if we can have a margarita too. :-) -

You Know It's Trouble When Your 13 year old son says....
by roybatty in"dad, you have to promise not to tell mom.
my kids and i were sitting down at dinner time when my son (with a big grin on his face) said that.
ok, ok, he got me and my 10 year old daughter (mom's little spy) to promise not to tell on him.

ROFL. This is hilarious.
I was laughing so hard, almost crying as I told him he shouldn't do things like that.
Yeah, if your kids make you laugh when they've done something "naughty", then you can't punish them. They're exempt. Not that you would have punished him for that, but you know what I mean.

I've found an old Doulton stoneware jug at home. An identical one has just sold at a USA shop for $250.
Don't you love it when that happens?
Nancy D. gave the same advice I was going to. Let me just reiterate: be careful! It's very addictive. About half of my enormous credit card debt can be attributed to my former ebay addiction (clean for two years, thank you very much). I was a collector of nothing specific, everything unusual and ebay is the place to find everything and nothing.
Just a side note: I'm still looking for an I-don't-know-what-you-call-it, but you know the old swing bands from the 1940s like Benny Goodman? The shell thingies the musicians stood behind that would have the initials of the band leader or some other cool art deco design on them. I want one of those. Not sure why, I just do. That's the only thing I've never been able to find on ebay.
